Get HOOKED!! Start Crochet TODAY!

If you were ever considering crocheting but felt like someone would have to teach you or you couldn’t learn on your own. I am here to tell you; YOU CAN DO IT! Admittedly, I was taught by someone. I had a beginner kit, and I was struggling to understand the instructions and couldn’t get my stitches to look right, so a friend spent the day with me, and we crocheted together. However, if you don’t have a friend like I do — you can learn without help from someone you know. My daughter taught herself completely from the wooble kits. They are individual kits with everything you need to make one little project. Those projects make great little desktop decoration or little gift to someone you love.

My very FIRST crochet project - Scratchy Bear

I went with a standard crochet for beginner’s kit. I don’t really recommend this kit or ones like it. It was challenging to get started and I made many mistakes without realizing as it was hard to see where I was doing things wrong while I was learning. He overall turned out cute, but doesn’t look like the picture the pattern shows (I actually think he’s cuter) and overall wasn’t an experience that made we want to keep going.

Round 2: The Cow

It did try to give it another try. I found this adorable book with even more adorable animal patterns inside. Admittedly it looked a bit advanced for my current skillset, but I was up for the challenge. I wanted to make cute characters for baby gifts or for different people and I loved how the characters in these had little outfits and accessories.

Pros for her books:

  • Patterns for various skill levels

  • Easy to follow instructions

  • Easy to read and understand stitch explanations

  • Great pictures of specific progress points

Cons for her books:

  • Some of the best patterns are the most difficult

  • Most of the body parts have 25-40 rounds, so can take some time for beginners

  • Pretty fine yarn used, so need to be good at stitches or prepared for a very large project if you yarn up.

  • SO MANY CUTE options, difficult to choose

I made this cute dragon for a gift! Also, from this book.

Natalie’s masterpieces:

Natalie is reluctant to try new things, and I had been crocheting for a bit before she gave it a try. One of her aunts or grammy bought her the WOOBLES kit and I must say they are pretty fantastic and if you’ve tried one a long time ago — THEY’VE IMPROVED! Try them again.

Pros for Woobles:

  • it’s a kit so if you don’t like it, you don’t make a large investment to give it a try like a lot of

  • online videos and step by step tutorials

  • a pre-started piece! - the hardest part in my opinion is getting started, so this is huge! You can practice stitches before having to accomplish the hard part!!

  • easy peesy yarn - making it simple to learn stitches and how they should look

  • can be completed in less than a day

Cons:

  • Pretty pricey considering the contents

  • Once mater them and you get bored with them you have to move on to another brand and product because the simple kits are really all they have.

  • it’s a little hard to move on to normal yarn after you have become used to easy peesy yarn.
